Platelets contain epidermal growth factor (EGF), which encourages cell growth, collagen growth, and blood vessel formation. Platelet-derived growth factor stimulates cell, blood vessel, and skin formation. Fibroblast growth factor-2 (FGF-2) encourages specialized cell and blood vessel formation. Together, these growth factors, along with insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-b), stimulate hair regrowth.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a type of healing therapy that uses a patients own blood and creates a serum using these concentrated platelets that promote healing and repair. This non-surgical treatment is a natural way to stimulate hair regrowth for patients with thinning hair and/or hair loss.
When you come in for your treatment, you will have your blood drawn and and spun in a centrifuge, which separates platelet rich plasma from the rest of your blood. It is extremely important to hydrate by drinking plenty of water before your appointment. The treatment includes a series of multiple injections into the scalp using a small sized needle for comfort. This procedure takes approximately 1 hour from start to finish.
We recommend 4-6 treatments done 1 month apart to start for optimal results. Then 1-2 treatments as needed for maintenance. Results will vary from patient to patient. New hair growth may be seen within as little as 2 weeks.
Recovery time is typically fast and most patients recover within 1-2 days. Some patients may experience slight swelling and/or soreness the day of treatment. This is normal and should subside within 48 hours.
